Since 1975, Pat Menzies has been more than just a shoe store — we've been Auckland’s original footwear boutique, dedicated to curating iconic style for generations of New Zealanders. LET US TAKE YOU THROUGH THE YEARS...
1975
In 1975, Pat Menzies started a men's shoe store in Canterbury Arcade, Queen Street. Clarks was a key brand then and still is.
1978
Pat saw fashion trends change with a movement towards unisex streetwear brands. Adidas and Nike were first to come onboard.
1980's
Pat secured a license to import canvas and bought Converse to NZ. Followed closely by being the first to sell Dr Martens imported from the UK.
1990's
Word spread, making Pat's store the go-to for iconic footwear. He added Birkenstock, Vans, New Balance and formed a team with good honest values and a genuine passion for service.
2000
This hard working team had to keep up with demand as they became shoe experts offering combined service and knowledge of over 100 years. You might recognise a one of the faces - they still work in the store!
2012
Good went to great and the store had to expand, partnering with Converse to bring the first ever concept store to New Zealand. Offering over 100 styles of your favourite styles of Chuck Taylors, One Star, Chuck 70 and seasonal styles.
2023
Several of our brand concept areas got a well-deserved lick of paint! Our Dr. Martens, Converse, Blundstone & Birkenstock walls are looking fresh and full of the latest product. Don't worry, our store still has the heritage charm everyone knows and loves!

The Pat Menzies experience has officially gone nationwide. What started on Queen Street 50 years ago has now grown to four stores across Aotearoa — including our flagship on Queen Street, our brand new stores in Wellington and Tauranga, our dedicated Outlet Store in Onehunga, and our concept store Solect by Pat Menzies at Commercial Bay. From iconic brands to expert service, we’re bringing the same passion and style we’re known for to even more corners of the country.
